TECHNICAL INFORMATION

Technical stages and process

Design, make cast, create, fire, polish, carve, glaze, fire, polish.
The process is slip casting. The material is porcelain slip (historically known as liquid gold).
The work is kiln fired twice, up to 1260ºC and each handmade piece is diamond polished several times between firings. This helps to achieve a beautiful, smooth and tactile finish highlighting the beautiful translucency & natural distortions given to each piece by the heat of the kiln.
Every piece undergoes approximately 24 hours in the kiln. Finally, some pieces are finished with the use of volcanic and coloured glazes and all pieces have my makers mark.
